WHAT IS THRIVE?
It’s an acronym for Travel, Heal, Reinvent, Inspire, Vision, and Emerge!
With my husband’s accidental death in 2017, my rollercoaster of life came off the rails completely. I was lost. I had no roadmap to guide me through how to grieve, how to function without him, or even how to take my next breath. I was utterly devastated and felt hopeless.
Thankfully, the love and support from our friends and family pulled me through the immediate shock of it all. My husband’s beloved photography friends invited me to keep traveling with them, just as Morgan and I had done together in the past. I simply took a leap of faith and simply leaned in, agreeing to join them on safari to Tanzania in March of 2018. That decision changed my life forever, and for the better.
Travel brought me new friendships. Friendships gave me renewed hope. Renewed hope allowed me to embrace forgiveness and charity, which in turn helped me define a whole new purpose for my life. That single experience moved me towards healing so profoundly that it allowed me to begin authoring the rest of my story.
Right there, in Africa… specifically in a hot-air balloon over the Serengeti, I had the realization that alone I would merely have survived, but through travel and friendship I could heal and I could thrive… and so the idea of THRIVE JOURNEYS was born.

WHY TUSCANY?
Tuscany, by nature, is a healing, soothing, and magical place. It simply vibrates at a different frequency than most of the rest of the planet. Tuscany transports you to a simpler time when people enjoyed the little things, like long dinners spent in conversation, or savoring delicious local wines and dining al fresco with a view of the iconic Tuscan countryside.

THE MESSAGE AND THE HEALING:
A small group of people (“Thrivers”) will take over a well-appointed self-catered 17th-century farmhouse, and immerse themselves in learning, adventure, laughter, and love. Our lessons will be led by two well-respected health and wellness coaches who will take the Thrivers on a guided and fascinating journey of discovery around the concepts of Balance and Purpose in one’s life, and how those factors contribute to healing and wellbeing.

THE FOOD:
Our Thrivers will delight in the culinary pampering delivered by two private chefs, Ivan and Anne. Although it is not required, Anne and Ivan welcome anyone who wants to assist them in the kitchen during meal prep. And everyone will be called upon to help clean up after meals. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
Anne and Ivan have a touching and fascinating story of their own to share with the group. They will educate us on the importance of food in our lives, and how food IS medicine.
Approximately 80% of the food and drinks consumed on this Journey is provided and has been included in the price of your trip.

As the old saying goes, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” We don’t want THAT now, do we?
Never fear! We aim to strike a nice balance between learning and touring. Our daily outings will take us into the cities, historical sites, and glorious hill towns of Tuscany. We will also be attending fun and fascinating wine school, as well as a Tuscan cooking class!
So… come to learn, but don’t you dare leave your sense of humor or your sense of adventure at home!

- Back to villa for time with Ivan and Anne. Ivan will address the group to talk about his journey, and to talk about food as medicine, etc.

- Sadly this is departure day… headed to Rome airport by 8:00
- You will be dropped off at the Rome airport by 12:00 p.m. If you want to schedule flights home today, please ensure they leave after 3:00pm.
- Otherwise, you might want to get a hotel or B&B and have a look around Rome and the Vatican for a few days. This extension would be on your own.

The collaborative is comprised of two, nationally board-certified Health & Wellness coaches. We each have our own wellness business, and we partner together to bring you opportunities for living on purpose, in balance. We emphasize and value the strength of collaborations and partnerships.
The HWC carries out our collective passion for partnering with and serving people as they take charge of their own life experience, and we are excited to partner with you on your journey! To understand Periquito Adventures & Travel, you first need to know the story of Susie and Morgan Langley. Married for nearly 30 years, they traveled the world together, making life-long friendships, collecting memories, and photographing some of the most scenic and magical places they could find. Morgan loved adventure and adrenaline… he even raced motorcycles for many years in Baja California. His Mexican racing friends called him “Periquito” (Spanish for little parrot, because he could talk… A LOT!).
Sadly, a tragic traffic accident took Morgan’s life in September of 2017. In the months that followed, Susie founded Periquito Adventures & Travel in his honor, lifting up his memory as she shares their wanderlust with all who wish to experience it.
Periquito Adventures & Travel focuses exclusively on taking small groups to beautiful places to do amazing things! You will get to see and do things with P.A.T. that you will not get access to with independent or large-group travel. Susie does all the legwork for you to create a safe, organized, fun, and flexible way to see the world. My education to become a certificated athletic trainer was primarily Western-based, with little exposure to alternative, complementary, or integrative practices. However, I became quite ill in 2011. When my personal health concerns showed little improvement with traditional medical care, I began exploring other means of healing. I personally utilized acupuncture, deep breathing exercises, herbs, dietary changes and Qi Gong to achieve results with asthma, hives, allergies and sinus infections. I also realized the impact emotions can have on anyone’s overall health. These successes lead me into the emerging field of health and wellness coaching, which allows me to partner with you, to explore and discover the best ways for you to realize your best health and healing. I look forward to holistically exploring your inherent, healing wisdom and your mind-body-spirit connections.

I believe each of us are responsible for, and in charge of, our own healing journeys and wellbeing. How we utilize our innate power to stay in balance as we journey is up to us. I am a believer in the idea that we are what we think, eat, and do (an integrative approach). To me, coaching is a natural extension of seeking health, wellness, and well-being, a process with which I have much experience through my career in nursing. The health & wellness model and the cairn construct make personal sense to me. My own life journey has not always been done in balance and it has led me to seek and emulate the cairn model while helping others to do the same. One of the ways that I experience a real personal sense of wellbeing is being in nature and with animals, especially horses.
I have been blessed with many callings (military nursing, teaching clinical nursing, being a graduate student in Integrative Nursing and Health & Wellness Coaching; and being a wife, mother, and friend). I come from a long lineage of cowboys and military members so perhaps that colors my positive mindset about life…the “can do” spirit. My purpose has been and continues to be about serving others and empowering others to experience an improved quality of life, health, and wellbeing.
Coaching individually (and in groups) allows me the privilege of sharing in the growth experience and “ah-ha!” moments of others. I advocate the top-down approach when looking at what life brings and exploring everything with curiosity. These attitudes let us see life through a much broader lens and they can often lead to new and different options when selecting a path forward in life situations. Ultimately, these approaches can result in a sense of balance and wellbeing.
I love being with people and watching them grow and immerse themselves in curiosity about how they live their lives and then move towards what they would like to do differently.
